Road Poets

Road Poets is a mix of Folk, Country, Blues and Rock that makes a format commonly called Americana Music. Often presented with understatement, the music does not typically rely on outstanding vocals or instrumentation but a genuine heart-felt performance.
Most weeks I choose a theme to centre the songs around. Past themes include - love, war, rain, trains, murder, dogs, drinking etc.
Some weeks I interview artists that I play on the show or who are touring through.(Gurf Morlix, Eliza Gilkyson, Fred Eaglesmith, Stephen Fearing, Kent Finlay, Dr G. (AKA Greg Andrews), Slaid Cleaves

Diamond Joe White Interview

Road Poets

Had the pleasure of interviewing Diamond Joe White the night for a show he was doing on Gabriola Island. Joe was an inspiration to me and my music 30 years ago, when I lived in Alberta, and he helped set me on the path to the music I love and play today. The interview includes many on his great songs from and album called Honestly.

One to Ten

Road Poets

Tonight's show tries to be clever and find songs that are related to numbers. It starts with the U2 song, One, sung by Johnny and ends with the Kramdens, Ten Acre Truck Stop. The highlight of the show is an interview with David Newberry and a Road Story about "Growing Stones".

Green Red

Road Poets

Other years I've done the obvious and played Christmas or Seasonal songs by the many Road Poets that make up this show. This year I threw all the Holly Jolly records in the ocean and made up a set of songs that is only about the colours Green and Red. Ever wonder why these two colours are everywhere at Christmas time? The answer may lie in the many songs on tonight's show that have nothing to do with Christmas. Peace on Earth from Road Poets

Moon

Road Poets

The December Moon at rising over the Coastal Mountain from Silva Bay BC was the inspiration for tonight's show. Who new song writers are so affected by the moon and write such great songs.

Water

Road Poets

We're 2/3 water, I live on an island surrounded by water and it rains allot this time of year. The show starts with Julie and Buddy Miller's, "Dirty Water" which was the tune that started the whole idea of doing a set of tunes on water. The listener that requested the song got home late so I reply it. Than a bit later someone who went to see Ian Moore solo(after I gushed) in Nanaimo phones me and says, "Really dave?" So I play "Blue Sky" by Ian Moore just to keep my credibility intact. Back to lots of water tunes and the show ends with a killer version of CCR's "Green River" from Woodstock.
