The RIOT ACT (with hosts the Reverend Terence and Preacher Katie)

Welcome to the RIOT ACT....Rare, Interesting and Obscure Tracks.

The theme of the show is outlined in its title; a weekly journey through the rare, interesting and obscure music produced and enjoyed throughout the world. Each week will see a totally unique and different show from the weeks before or after. Picture one show totally based around the punk genre, a second featuring nothing but live bootleg concert tracks, or one based on all rock or blues acts, remixes, demos, stoner rock, fresh hot rock/pop/alt acts new to the market, even seven inch ‘50s rockabilly never released on LP or CD. Envision a show based on unique music from non-North American acts; Italy's greatest rapper, late ‘60s Cambodian rock, Mongolian throat singer covers, Japanese punk and even mariachi cover band rock from Mexico. If one week's show isn't your style, try another....there's plenty to partake during the Riot Act. Host Reverend Terence Fitzgerald has been collecting music since he was 13 and now sits on 3TB of rare bootlegs, demos, remixes and the like. With friends tired of being inundated with new music monthly, he has agreed to share his collection with the world and hopes everyone can be entertained and delighted by it. Terence is a Grammy and Emmy Award winning producer/director of animation, music videos, films and television. His 10 MTV Music Video Award nominations for one single video set a record in 1999. Music is his escape, he welcomes you along for the journey.

Co-host Preacher Katie Gilray is a second year Global Studies student minoring in English at Vancouver Island University. She started hanging around CHLY last year when she recently moved to the Island from Ontario and was taken back by their welcoming and down-to-earth atmosphere. It was such a breath of fresh air to see a local station that discussed real global and community based issues without sugar coating them. CHLY’s beliefs in low advertising and good music made her fall head over heels in love, which is why she decided to become a board member as well.

Riot Act 02_23_2012 John Lennon's Last Performance 1974 MSG NYC

The RIOT ACT (with hosts the Reverend Terence and Preacher Katie)

Sadly this recording would turn out to be John Lennon's last live performance in front of a large crowd. He performed three songs during an Elton John concert at Madison Square Gardens, New York City back in 1974. Lennon had lost a bet to Elton (discussed in the podcast before the songs) and his penance was to perform live with Elton. Another amazing A+ sound quality bootleg from the Reverend Terence.

Riot Act 02_02_2012 Facebook-inspired Freedom Festival

The RIOT ACT (with hosts the Reverend Terence and Preacher Katie)

This episode of The RIOT ACT on CHLY,guest-hosted by SteinAlive, includes music from artists found via Facebook posts after a call-out was made for submissions. I call this a Freedom Festival since these songs, in my opinion, represent the artists' expressive and creative freedom. Of course, the Funk Vigilante track "Internet Fight Song," is a timely response to legal quagmire presented by SOPA/PIPA in the United States, and the global repercussions of such legislation and clearly stands for internet freedom.

Hour 1 focused on local, Vancouver Island talent, with some artists from BC and elsewhere. We also hear much from shaMANoiD's SomaSounSystem Volume 1 CD. (I announced the songs incorrectly around 30 minutes in - it wasn't OTT, it was Liquid Stranger - this is the correct order:) Colin Bigg, Sunshine (post-humus indie release), Join The Join, Sunshine, Adam James, Make Out, Zoe Lauckner, Virginia (feat Lee Napthine of Sweatshop Union), Aaron aka 'FreshMuff' 'Muffy', Detox, Funk Vigilante, Internet Fight Song, Inhaler, Freak Flag, Inhaler, Bouncy Castle, Liquid Stranger, Beacon, OTT, Owl Stretching Time, shaMANoiD, Phi (the golden mean, Echo Pilot, Bugaboo (shaMANoiD remix), shaMANoiD, Inner Eyelid Cinema (Echo Pilot remix), Adham Shaikh and Shine, One World

Hour 2: Given that we are in the final year of the Mayan long-count calendar, hour 2 features the "Return of Quetzalcoatl" FREE release from Timewave Records: shaMANoiD, Walking In The Desert, Brujo's Bowl - Organic Structures, Digital Conception, The Mystical Quest, Iacchus, Frogspawn, Spunje, Mystic Forest, Normala, Dreamwards Again, Ascetic, Mutant, PROGRESS, Spring Is Over, Iacchus, Flex. Big thanks to shaMANoiD (http://www.shamanoid.com/) for the suggestion to focus on supporters of the global electronic music festival scene, to which, shaMANoiD contributes immensely.

Riot Act 01_19_2012 Rolling Stones - 2120 Michigan Ave - Unreleased 1963 Blues Album

The RIOT ACT (with hosts the Reverend Terence and Preacher Katie)

In 1963 the Rolling Stones walked into the legendary blues recording studio Chess Studios in Chicago. They recorded a handful of songs for a blues rock album. They turned the songs into their manager and the label and both said it was a step back for the band, so the album was shelved and never released. Here are the best 16 tracks from this recording session. Studio A+ quality... nice and bluesy. Dare I say this is Brian Jones at his best??

Here is the greatest rock band of all time, at their pinnacle.

Riot Act 01_12_2012 Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon Wembley 1974

The RIOT ACT (with hosts the Reverend Terence and Preacher Katie)

What can be said about this other than it is THE definitive Dark Side of the Moon bootleg. Recorded live back in 1974, at Wembley Stadium, London. It's an A++ soundboard boot, taken directly from the BBC master tape and remixed just this past year. If you are a fan of Floyd, the 70s, or just a fan of amazing live concerts, this is for you. Period. All ten tracks of DSOTM are here, in order, as clean and perfect as you will ever hear. Imagine being there live... listening to this with the original line-up. Brilliant...

Pink Floyd soundboard bootleg, live in Melbourne, Australia, 1988. This eight track set includes a greatest hits of the band, minus any Dark Side of the Moon tracks, from the 70s, right up to 1987. Enjoy tracks like Wish You Were Here, Another Brick in the Wall, Shine On You Crazy Diamond and Comfortably Numb.
